It is a rite of passage in New England come October to visit a favorite local "sincere" pumpkin patch (as Linus from It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown would say).
The Tappan family let us follow them around as they embarked on the very serious duty of picking the perfect pumpkin to carve. It was little brothers first pumpkin experience ever, and he dove right in. Older brother was a bit more artistic about the whole thing, and preferred to direct Dad.
One of our faves, and the one featured here is Emery Farm in Durham NH. A lot of pumpkin patches have horse & cart rides, corn mazes, animal petting areas, and lots of options for learning about farm life. It's a fun family outing no matter how you slice it - and a must on the Fall traditions list.
